The Black Staff and Faculty
Organization (BSFO) was developed in 1979 to address the
issues and concerns unique to employees at the University
of California, Berkeley. The goal of BSFO is to promote
general prosperity of African-Americans at the University
of California at Berkeley; to function as an informative organization
in support of recruitment, career development and retention
of our members; hold the campus administration accountable
for maintaining its commitment to diversity and affirmative action;
and to be an influential voice in supporting recruitment
and retention of Africa -American students. Ultimately implement
a mechanism that will bring together the African-American
community (internal and external) and to develop and maintain
a campus wide network system.
Purpose
- To act as an informative and proactive organization
to address, develop and influence policy recommendations, resolutions
and practices that affect the African American community at
the University of California, Berkeley.
- To serve as a resource to the campus on issues unique to
the African American community.
- To coordinate our efforts with other campus organizations
in the pursuit of common goals.
- To promote and support relevant research and publications
concerning issues of interest to the African American community.
- To encourage and maintain a communicative network on a
local, regional, state and national level.
Goals

Objectives
- Establish and maintain supportive systems and programs
that enhance the educational, social and professional opportunities
for African Americans.
- Establish an internal communication network among staff,
faculty, and students (e.g. calendar, newsletter, departmental socials,
etc.).
- Establish mechanisms for formally recognizing the contributions
of African Americans at the University of California, Berkeley.
- Provide opportunities that facilitate African American
staff, faculty and student interaction.
